I have a iMac OSX, and I've had this problem a few times, so I thought I'd see if any of you guys know how to fix this.

Sometimes when I download/rip video to my computer, the sound doesn't work. I believe what I need is the ACT-L3 codec (i am unsure of this though) - but the website that the apple website links to does not have a download for said codec.

Basically, I am just looking for whatever codec I need to download to be able to play audio on select .avi files. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try www.steambox.com . That's what came up when I googled downloads for the codec. maybe it will help. If you still have problems, I'll talk to a friend tomorrow.

Thank you! I have tried going to www.streambox.com - which is the site that I can never find an actual download for. This is the page that comes up: http://www.streambox.com/products/act_l3_main.html

I realize this was three years ago, but I just stumbled upon it today. I realize the players here will probably never see this. Doesn't matter. I have got to respond to this anyway, for the response that is required here is simply too obvious to not be posted, even three years later.

I came here looking for information about where to download the ACT-L3 codec because, like the original author, I have determined that I need it. Also like the author, I have discovered that all the links that send me to the "free download!" for the ACT-L3 codec send me to the same page, the one that she cited, which has great information about the codec but NO download.

I don't want to be ugly - I really don't. The reason I am concerned about being ugly is, the nice lady came here looking to see if anyone knew where she could get a download for the ACT-L3 codec, and Jeff, your solution was to Google the codec and post "what came up." I have to point out the obvious here, and that could make it seem like I am being ugly. Sorry about that.

Jeff, buddy, don't you think that a girl who had enough sense to figure out that she needed an ACT-L3 codec PROBABLY had enough sense to Google the codec BEFORE she came to this Web site and started asking anonymous people if they knew where to find it?

Do you REALLY think she hadn't already thought to GOOGLE it first, BEFORE coming here?

I know; you were just trying to help. But, come on - use some sense.

Hey - I just realized it was three years ago TO THE DAY!

That's kind of cool!

Is there an appla store near you? I'm thinking that a talk with the people down there might yield results.

Have you had any luck with your problem?

Unfortunately, not yet. I haven't had the chance to go to a Mac store. The REALLY weird thing is that when I opened it in Adobe Image Ready to make a .gif file, it had sound when I was playing it ... very very weird.
